I thought it might be nice to start a thread about your favorite Japanese movies. I've seen some really good ones but I forget their names.
"Vibrator" by Ryuichi Hiroki is one I remember. My Japanese isn't good enough to understand all of it but it's about a desperate, really lonely woman who meets a truck driver (played by Nao Omori from "Ichi the Killer") in a conbini and hitches a ride across Japan. They build a pretty weird relationship and the movie cuts from sudden sex scenes to intimate talk to "trucking" sequences. It was pretty enjoyable!
The movie is all about trust and the dangers of a government gone insane. I have a copy of the book translated in English. It is a long novel but a damn good read.

"Mr. Baseball" - at the time of its release, it accurately reflected Japan. Except maybe for the scene on the _uncrowded_ train. See my post: Top 10 Reasons to Come To Japan (in the movies)
