It can be difficult to explain what JapanSoc.org is exactly, but it's best described on our new homepage as follows:
JapanSoc.org was established to allow all those writing or reading Japan themed blogs to join together as a community and promote the Japan-related web.
One of the ways in which we hope to draw more attention to and get more people involved in JapanSoc is by establishing a presence in different social networks. We already have groups in Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr and StumbleUpon, and each of those groups are updated with news from our main gathering point at the JapanSoc Forums. But what about other Japan-related communities? Here's a post I made at Tokyo Circle recently:
------
There are lots of Japan-related communities on the net, but unless you take the time to check each one out, you don't really know what they are like or what they offer. So, wouldn't it be a good idea to create mini groups within each community and update them with news from HQ?
That way people already within those communities can easily join your mini group, learn what you're all about, and hopefully come and join the main group, too. Creating mini-groups in other communities would be kind of like a web 2.0 version of a link exchange and should benefit all the networks involved.
------
As we expand into Japan-related communities such as Tokyo Circle and eGenki, we'll be inviting them to come and set up groups of their own within the JapanSoc Forums. That invite is not limited to social networks, either. If you run a Japan-related group or website, please come and introduce yourself, set up a "social group" and let us know more about what you do, what events you're running, and how we can get involved.
